Newark, NJ – Rich, textural designs in Thibaut’s new “Tamarind” collection show cultural influences from Persia, India and Turkey. 16th Century rugs and tapestries provided inspiration for many of the designs, and patterns that imitate the appearance of woven fabric or aged linen. In some instances the printed wallpaper resembles fabric so much that it beckons you to reach out and feel it.

Designs appear in warm, rich colors—shades of brown, beige, moss green, olive, terra cotta, rust, bright red, and sunbaked red, as well as black and various spice colors. There are coordinating fabrics, including heavy linen-cotton blends. Like the wallpaper patterns, the printed fabrics have a textural, aged look. Some take on the appearance of woven fabric.

Key designs in the collection include “Challiot,” a large-scale Jacobean pattern with stylized flowers, berries, and parrots; “Wenzel,” another large-scale Jacobean pattern with a worn linen look; “Gregory,” an arabesque damask overlaying a linen-like background; “Tabriz,” a medallion-like carpet design with scenes featuring elephants, birds, tigers, and journeying Arabic citizens; “Kilim,” a detailed design mimicking the woven, brocaded look of a Kilim rug; and “Instanbul Damask,” a leaf-shaped medallion design with an aged linen appareance. There are also two “Tree of Life” designs-- “Louise,” a large-scale open pattern with stylized, blossoming flowers, ripe berries, and pomegranates; and “Nicobar,” a Jacobean design portrayed in a loose style, reminiscent of an antique blockprint fabric. The collection also contains rich and intricate paisley designs such as “Hemmingway,” a large-scale pattern inspired by a woven document, and “Turkish Court,” a paisley stripe design. Both are created with hundreds of tiny color accents, capturing the intricate needlework of a paisley fabric.
