Thibaut’s “Fairfax” Collection Inspired by Cultural Influences

Winchester Paisley and Nicolette Plaid
Newark, NJ – Thibaut’s new “Fairfax” collection
is a compilation of traditional, casual designs with regional influences
from Western India, South-East Asia and Eastern Europe. Inspiration for the
collection came from woven fabrics, embroidered tapestries, and artifacts
gathered from exotic ports of call. Textural elements are incorporated into
the background of some of the designs, and the color palette is softened
with light, muted hues of apricot, pear and azure. The tone of the collection
is comfortable and unfussy. A loose, block-print-like style can be found
in many of the designs, and some of the patterns have a worn, aged appearance.
“Winchester
Paisley” features the classic and ageless teardrop
motif, a design element that traces back 2000 years to lady’s shawls
fabricated in Kashmir. The paisley pattern is renewed with fresh, soft color—combinations
of sage, wheat, light blue and grass green; azure, light blue, camel and
taupe; asparagus, gold, apricot and muted berry. “Jacobean
Trail,” based
on a 17th century fabric, is also infused with soft colors like pear and
cornflower blue. Stylized flowers, pottery, and collectibles from Moroccan
markets can be found in “Marrakech,” while “Ikat
Stripe” and “Ikat
Fabric” present soft, subtle color that mimics a special weaving style
of Southeast Asia using hand-dyed threads.
Additional designs in the collection include “Rye,” an adaptation
of an 18th century linen block print; “Hunterdon,” an intricate
Jacobean paisley featuring fanciful plumed birds; “Leopold,” derived
from an antique document resembling a woven tapestry; and “English
Crewel,” which presents distinctive scrollwork with the clean, crisp
look of hand-stitched embroidery.
There are many accompanying fabrics, including “Nicolette
Plaid,” which
is available in 7 rich color combinations. The plaid design coordinates with
all sidewall patterns in the collection, and is a perfect compliment for
draperies, pillows, and upholstered chairs.
